11/17/08 Pasadena artist JM Jefferies sets site for wearable art lovers
Los Angeles -- Wearable art is creation on the move. Jacqueline Jefferies has held private semi-annual sales of her jewelry collection for years, but clients and admirers of her work have convinced her to put her bold jewelry, soft sculptures and paintings on a web site, jmjefferies.com. All are products of her exuberant personality and vivacious spirit. Characterized as a folk artist, Jackie is passionate and gifted, doing work she believes is the culmination of all her eccentric love for detail, unique materials, and color.
Every piece of jewelry is one-of-a-kind crafted with yards of twisted wire, beads and objects. Her spirited jewels are conversation starters at a party or just walking down the street.
“I was at a Trader Joe’s and a woman turned around and actually yelled, ‘Outstanding, simply outstanding!’ It was very memorable for me, very encouraging,” says Jackie.
Bold jewelry in fashion is encouraged by all this seasons’ fashion magazines; “If a woman wears a piece of jewelry, let it be large,” says Bazaar Magazine.
Jackie’s jewelry is a statement to be sure. “Women who love art, women who have personal style, make up most of my customers,” she notes.
Jackie’s family moved from Sandusky, Ohio to Glendale, Calif., when she was 3 ultimately settling in nearby Tujunga. Her mother was a creative spirit, who wrote children’s books. Perhaps because the TV was rarely turned on, Jackie began drawing at the age of 5. Working with fabric and thread her mother used in her own handmade projects, Jackie began to explore three-dimensional expression as well as painting on anything stationary.
She also developed a unique painting style. Today, Jackie prefers depicting animals, particularly dogs, in her wildly colorful portraits, many of them commissions by proud owners.

When I was a kid, I knew I wanted to be either an artist or a veterinarian. In my own way, I am combining those interests,” says Jackie.
Museum shops have carried Jackie’s soft sculptures that are covered in detailed embellishments including beads and hand-painted lettering. “I have very special people on my holiday gift list and these pieces are so unique. Every one has a personality,” says Susan, a new admirer of Jefferies’ creative hand.
